Overview
Trundle is a bruiser that can be flexed between multiple roles depending on the patch. He’s most deadly as a split pushing force, though, as he can quickly beat down turrets once he gets some items online. In fights, he can briefly become one of the tankiest champions in the game thanks to being able to steal enemy defenses, so he’ll have good presence in both side lanes and team fights. Keys to Remember About Trundle
The window of strength after using Subjugate [R] is critical to your team fight chances -- you want to be very aggressive and take up space at this point so that your team can deal as much damage as possible before you're forced to peel back.
Pillar of Ice [E] can be devastating when you're able to pin someone against a wall, but it's just as well to use it in the open to get the slow field on opponents if you have allies nearby that can capitalize.
Strengths
Trundle’s Pillar of Ice [E] is a pretty unique ability in what it can do. It’s one of the few abilities in the game that generates terrain, and because it can be used from afar, it can be used to block off enemy pathing. This can sometimes pin them into a wall and force them to walk back towards you or into the path of danger, or it can help him escape from bad situations. Trundle is a very difficult champion to fight head on in a 1v1 because he steals stats with his Chomp [Q] and Subjugate [R] -- it’ll always force enemies to back off away from him before re-engaging, especially because he can heal up from King’s Tribute [P]. He’s very literally a stat check champion, and you should be wary of taking him on alone.
Weaknesses
Pillar of Ice [W] is his one real way of getting on enemies, as most people aren’t just going to stand still and let him whack them. This means your team will want some other form of engage or manner of forcing enemies to actually fight, otherwise they can just peel backwards and wait for Trundle’s Subjugate [R] to dissipate, at which point he’ll become a fairly easy target for enemies to kill. Even with help from teammates, though, he’ll be susceptible to being kited.
Game Plan
Early Game: You can trade if enemies jump on you, but it’s hard to secure kills without jungle pressure. You’re good at making it easy for CC to land thanks to Pillar of Ice [W].
Mid Game: Look to focus on split pushing as you are difficult to kill in 1v1 situations, but you’ll want to group up with your team for fights. Stealing stats from the enemy main tank can make it very easy for your team to kill them.
Late Game: The plan won’t change much from the mid game -- depending on who is assigned to deal with you in the side lane, though, you can sometimes just ignore them and take turrets. Otherwise you can look to group and serve as a meat shield for your team.
