Yorick Build Guide

Yorick Build Guide

Overview

Yorick and his maiden have come through a lot to reach this point in their League of Legends lifespan -- he’s a champion that has undergone plenty of changes and now has an identity as one of the strongest split pushers in the game. He can create multiple pressure points on the map thanks to his maiden, and if left unchecked, it can easily crush structures in the side lane whether he’s actually there or not. Keys to Remember About Yorick

  1. You better love split pushing if you are picking Yorick -- whatever the reason is, most people who pick split pushing champions will eventually want to group and fight once they're strong enough. You can just... not do that! Just pressure side lanes!

  2. Yorick can send his maiden off to one area of the map while he's at another -- while you generally want to split, sometimes it can be enough to leave the maiden and sit by your team by objectives.

Strengths

Yorick is one of the few champions in the game that could win the game without ever interacting with his team or, honestly, the enemy team at all. He could just focus on killing minions and hitting the turret and probably find some level of success just from his split pressure alone. That said, you will often be playing the game as it is still a PvP game, and Yorick is extremely difficult for enemies to deal with thanks to Mourning Mist [E] allowing him to easily empower his poke (from his ghouls) on enemies throughout the game. Once you get Eulogy of the Isles [R], your maiden will be a huge threat both to enemy champions and structures -- if they aren’t constantly killing the maiden, it will snowball the side lane pressure.

Weaknesses

If enemies do focus down the maiden, then Yorick is going to be a lot less effective both in the side lane and in team fights. And he’s already not the strongest team fighter, as his Dark Procession [W] is a little awkward to get good value out of. He’s a bruiser that doesn’t have great gap closing outside of running at opponents (though this can sometimes be enough with his slows), so he is susceptible to being kited. His split pushing can also be dealt with if he’s not able to snowball and gain leads early -- if he’s unable to 1v1 his opponent, then he won’t have much left to offer the team in terms of win conditions.

Game Plan

  1. Early Game: Let your ghouls harass the enemy laner -- you can look for good trades with Last Rites [Q] as well, but your goal is to scale up and chip at their turret as much as possible.

  2. Mid Game: Your focus is on split pushing -- it can be fine to completely ignore grouping up for objectives if you’re able to get free time in your lane to push.

  3. Late Game: Same idea as mid game. You’ll want to assess it game by game to see if you have the ability to group and fight, but in general, you will be more effective as a split pusher.
