Overview
Do you wanna build a snowman? Come on, let’s go and play. Nunu might not be a magical princess or a magical princess’ sister even, but he and his best friend Willump are probably much better when it comes to snow. Being able to roll a giant ball of snow around the map is one of the funnest abilities across all champions in League of Legends, and it helps make him a fearsome champion that can roll up on you, literally, at any time. Keys to Remember About Nunu & Willump
Absolute Zero [R] can't be seen from a bush -- this makes Nunu an extremely deadly target to chase because one second you see his fluff running away from you and the next you are slowed and thinking "why am I so slow?" before realizing you're about to get blasted. He's great at turning on enemies and great at setting up bush traps.
He has great engage range on ganks thanks to his snowball -- you can sometimes throw it early to cut off an escape path if you're not sure you can actually hit the enemy with it.
Strengths
An old quote about Nunu that is less true these days that I’ve always resonated with is TheOddOne saying, and I am paraphrasing, that you pick Nunu to make sure the other jungler also doesn’t have fun. This is because he was formerly a menace at counter-jungling thanks to Consume [Q]. While Nunu is a much funner champion to play these days, and jungle has changed drastically (and continues to change every season, it seems), Consume [Q] and Biggest Snowball Ever! [W] allows Nunu to easily snipe away enemy jungle camps and then dip before danger approaches him. His W also makes it easy for him to gank at all stages in the game -- it’s not the hardest ability to dodge but it can make enemies move erratically, which makes it easier for your teammates to jump on them. And if nothing else, it’s a surefire way to get him close to the action.
Weaknesses
Teams who are good at disengaging and spread out against not only his Biggest Snowball Ever! [W] but also his Absolute Zero [R] are going to make it hard for him to find value with his abilities. If neither of those are able to land, the rest of his kit is going to feel underwhelming in team fights especially. So even if he’s good at taking objectives thanks to Consume [Q], if he’s not able to win the fight preceding it, then it may not even matter. And while his kit is good for his team, it’s not the greatest at single target dueling or for enabling him to hard carry games -- he’s always going to need competent allies (and we know how hard that can be to find in Solo Queue), which becomes increasingly important as the game progresses.
Game Plan
Early Game: Nunu has a strong early game thanks to Consume [Q] and his W giving him immediate gank pressure -- be active with it as you can easily make up lost farming time with your Q.
Mid Game: You have good neutral objective control with Consume [Q] and Smite making it hard for enemies to steal from you -- look to force a play with your W and before starting neutrals!
Late Game: Game plan is similar to mid game, only that you’ll be fighting more often. You have good zone control with your Absolute Zero [R], so be sure to help peel for your carries as needed!
